Oberlin College
Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Architecture and Urban Studies, with scholarship awards
My first Oberlin experience was participating in a demonstration to save Peters Hall from demolition. Later I was hired by Vice President Baley Mason to help prepare re-use plans for Peters, Carnegie Library and Westervelt Hall (now Union Center for the Arts).
I worked with President Starr in saving Peters and President Powell authorized my work to save Johnson House and restore its exterior with vibrant paint colors. In addition, I presented a plan for reconstructing Council Hall (1871-1930) at Oberlin College to provide a unique venue for student housing. I'm glad to have these experiences.
Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies, New York, New York
One-year course of studies under the direction of Peter Eisenman and Rem Koolhaas
I'm grateful to Peter Eisenman for encouraging me to go into preservation, suggesting I meet Professor Fitch, which I did, leading me to apply to Columbia right out of Oberlin College. Plus, it was great to spend a year in midtown Manhattan at the Institute.
